Instructions & Result Interpretation
This page provides step-by-step guidance on how to perform your Faecal Occult Blood (FOB) Test and interpret the results.
How to Perform the Test

Prepare for the Test
-
Ensure that the test cassette and sample collection materials are at room temperature (15-30°C).
-
Remove the test cassette from the sealed pouch and lay it on a flat, clean surface.
-
Do not collect a sample during or within three days of menstruation or if experiencing haemorrhoidal bleeding.

Attach the flushable stool collection paper to the toilet seat. Ensure that it does not touch the water.
-
Pass a bowel movement directly onto the stool collection paper.

Prepare the Sample
-
Open the sampling tube (keep it upright to avoid spills).
-
Using the attached stick, poke into the stool sample at three or more different spots to ensure accuracy.
-
Place the sampling stick back into the tube and tighten the lid securely.
-
Shake the tube vigorously to ensure proper mixing.
-
Let the sample settle for one minute before proceeding

Perform the Test
-
Snap off the tip of the sample tube to create a dropper opening.
-
Add 2-3 drops of the sample solution into the sample well (marked "S") on the test cassette.

Start a timer and wait 5 minutes before reading the results.

Do not interpret results after 10 minutes, as they may be inaccurate.
How to Interpret Your Results

✅ Negative (No Occult Blood Detected)
Only one line appears in the Control (C) line area.
-
No line appears in the Test (T) line area.
-
No hidden blood detected, but regular screening is still recommended.

âš Positive (Occult Blood Detected)
-
Two lines appear – one in the Control (C) line and one in the Test (T) line.
-
This suggests hidden blood in the stool, which may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding, polyps, or other conditions.
-
Consult a doctor for further evaluation.
🚫 Invalid Test Result
-
If no Control (C) line appears, or a line in the Test (T) the test is invalid.
-
Possible causes: insufficient sample, expired test, or incorrect procedure.
-
Retake the test using a new kit.

FAQ's
1. What does this test measure?
This test detects hidden blood (haemoglobin) in stool, which may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding.
2. How accurate is the test?
The FOB Test has 99% sensitivity and 100% specificity, making it highly reliable for detecting occult blood.
3. Can certain foods or medications affect the results?
Yes. To ensure accuracy, avoid NSAIDs, steroids, and rectal medications for 7 days before testing (if approved by your doctor).
4. What should I do if my test is positive?
A positive test does not confirm cancer or a specific disease. It means that hidden blood was detected, and further medical evaluation is needed.
